As parents and guardians, we often look to the church to disciple our children. We bring them to Sunday school, youth groups, and summer camps, hoping they will absorb the Word of God. But the truth is, the most powerful discipleship doesn’t happen in the sanctuary—it happens in the living room.
The church is here to support you, but you are the primary spiritual leader in your child’s life. Here is your practical guide to raising Kingdom kids at home:
1. Model Faith Before You Teach It
Children learn far more from watching us than from listening to us. If you pray in your quiet time, they will learn to pray. If you open your Bible and read it with joy, they will see the Word as a treasure. Live out your faith authentically in front of them—in your patience, your forgiveness, and your worship—and they will catch the fire of the Holy Spirit.
2. Create a “Sacred Space” for Family Devotionals
You don’t need an hour-long seminary lesson. Just 10 to 15 minutes a day can change the spiritual atmosphere of your home. Pick a consistent time—right after dinner or before bed—and gather together. Read one or two verses from a children’s Bible, ask them questions, and pray together. Make it a warm, safe time where they can ask anything about God.
3. Turn Ordinary Moments into Spiritual Lessons
Life is the greatest classroom. When you see a beautiful sunset, thank God for His creation. When you face a difficult situation, pray together about it. When they make a mistake, show them grace and point them to Jesus. In Deuteronomy 6:7, we are told to talk about God’s commands “when you sit at home and when you walk along the road.”
4. Celebrate Their Unique Gifts
Every child is uniquely designed by God with specific gifts and talents. Pay attention to what they love and where they excel—whether it’s music, art, sports, or acts of service—and affirm that these are part of their God-given purpose. Help them see that even at a young age, they are valuable to the Kingdom.
5. Connect Them to a Church Family
While home is the foundation, the church is the family. Bring your children to services, encourage them to join the Youth Ministry or “The Remnants,” and foster relationships with other kids who share their faith. It truly takes a village—a church family—to raise up a generation of bold believers.
At ALCM Int’l, we are here to help you in this journey.
Join us this Sunday at 10:30 AM as we worship together. We invite you to bring your whole family! If you have specific questions about our Youth Ministry, or if you would like our pastoral team to pray over your children, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
